Date & Time: Part 1 - Saturday, January 21 from 9-11 a.m. ET Part 2 - Saturday, January 21 from 1-3 p.m. ET AFFINITY GROUP FACILITATOR TRAINING - LEVEL 1 Learn about the value of affinity groups and how to create affinity spaces that support anti-oppression goals. Begin exploring facilitation strategies that promote equitable and brave conversations while considering practical issues when running affinity groups. This workshop encourages participants to: - Reflect on the value of affinity groups for students, employees, leadership, and parents/guardians. - Understand how affinity groups are rooted in anti-oppression and social justice. - Explore questions, concerns, and challenges related to affinity groups. - Experience facilitation strategies that can be used when running an affinity group. Who should attend? Recommended for anyone interested in understanding the value of affinity groups, and/or facilitating affinity groups. AFFINITY GROUP FACILITATOR TRAINING - LEVEL 2 Be prepared to facilitate an affinity group. This module encourages reflection about the objectives of affinity group work as a framework to explore planning considerations, group discussion and reflection strategies, and facilitation techniques for navigating difficult conversations. This workshop encourages participants to: - Think critically about and practice designing discussion prompts. - Learn facilitation strategies to use when running an affinity group. - Reflect on impromptu responses to situations that arise when facilitating. - Develop a plan for facilitating an affinity group from a sample script. Who should attend? Recommended for affinity group facilitators. ***** This two-part training workshop is limited to 15-40 participants and is open to people of both dominant and non-dominant identities. Some breakout group discussions will be structured as affinity conversations. Affinity groupings will be based on the make-up of the group.
