Difficult Conversations: BIPOC educators

Free Discussion (Sep 18): Difficult Conversations and Reconciliation

  • Online Discussions (hosted on Zoom)

Service Description

Discussion Topic: Difficult Conversations in the Context of Reconciliation (for BIPOC folks) Date & Time: Saturday, September 18 from 11:00am-1:00pm ET Cost: Free *** This session is an affinity space for people who identify as BIPOC educational professionals. When events take place that get people talking, not everyone in school communities feels prepared to respond in supportive, sensitive, and informed ways to the questions and emotional responses that arise in students and colleagues. As news continues to unfold about unmarked graves that tangibly reveal the specific numbers of Indigenous children who were killed by our nation at former residential schools, this discussion focuses on how to have these difficult conversations. In preparation for Truth and Reconciliation Week 2021 (Sept. 27 - Oct. 1), this is a great opportunity to engage in reflective conversations about reconciliation. This is a small group discussion (15-40 participants) for BIPOC identifying educational professionals working at any level in the Canadian education system (elementary, secondary, college, university).
